IDA ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR ELEPHANTS IN ZOOS
Since IDA began its campaign for elephants in zoos in 2004:
16 zoos have closed or will close their elephant exhibits
These 12 zoos have closed their elephant exhibits:
Omaha Zoo, Neb. (2011)
Central Florida Zoo (2011)
Brookfield Zoo, Ill. (2010)
Jackson Zoo, Miss. (2010)
Lion Country Safari, Fla. (2010)
Philadelphia Zoo, Pa. (2008)
Abilene Zoo, Tex. (2007)
Alaska Zoo (2007)
Gladys Porter Zoo, Tex. (2006)
Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo, Ill. (2005)
Detroit Zoo, Mich. (2004)
San Francisco Zoo, Calif. (2004)
These four zoos will close or phase out their elephant exhibits:

Pt. Defiance Zoo, Wash.
Toronto Zoo, Ontario, Canada
Five zoos have placed a total of seven elephants at the PAWS Sanctuary in Calif. or The Elephant Sanctuary (TES) in Tenn.:
Alaska Zoo (Maggie – to PAWS, 2007)
Los Angeles Zoo (Ruby – to PAWS, 2007)
Detroit Zoo (Winky, Wanda – to PAWS, 2004)
San Francisco Zoo (Tinkerbelle, Lulu – to PAWS, 2004)
Philadelphia Zoo (Dulary – to TES, 2007)
No zoo has lost its AZA accreditation for moving elephants to sanctuaries.
